A BRIEF HISTORY OF COMPUTING AND IT IN NEPAL

Introduction:  The capabilities and design of computers developed rapidly through the forties and fifties, with the first office application appearing in 1951. In the early days of computing, most computer operations were limited to calculations. The programs that drove them had to communicate directly with the hardware elements of the computer. As we know today, information technology could never have reached this height without the development of natural language programming. With the concept of compiler and interpreter being possible, the drastic change in the world of computers was inevitable. This advancement enriched the capabilities of programming and made more complicated instructions possible. In the late 1960s, with the development of screens-keyboards-text editors and languages such as FORTRAN and COBOL, programming was available to those interested in business, rather than only to scientists and engineers. Body: The history of computing in Nepal is not that old since Ne...

Memes

I don't know if the words that I want to say come out the right way or not but here we go.  This writing is about memes. Memes, those random short clips and pictures that say they're made for providing laughter. What I mostly find pondering about is, do they make you laugh though?  They have been quite helpful at times. At raising awareness among people, at sharing the wholesome happiness, at marketing and I can't even appreciate how much it has helped people in coping with serious matters. I agree that comedy is subjective, what makes some people laugh may not make other laugh and what not. But what do we see nowadays as meme? Have you ever analyzed them or even thought about them?  So let me put it from my perspective and from my timeline viewpoint. Half the memes I see are the ones that I've seen floating around since ages. Maybe that's on me for having being connected to Facebook for a long time and following a lot and a lot of pages from ages. Sometimes these ...

Chaman Bahaar: A Movie Review

Chaman Bahaar is a character driven drama movie where we go on a journey of self-destruction with Billu, a paanwala in the outskirts of Mogli district who from the first scene of the movie itself, is in search of his identity. This Netflix Original written and directed by debutant Apurva Dhar Badgaiyann portraits the creepy aashiqui of the village lads who scare the towngirl Rinku played by Ritika Badiani. Billu, whose generations have dedicated themselves to working in forest department lives with his widowed father and opens up the Paan Stall when he's scared to death in his night out at forest duty.  Throughout the movie, we feel the absence of his mother in his life and that makes us feel emphatic towards him. When Billu realizes that "divide and conquer" fails badly and the "bad mouthing" is the new cool, the movie builds up opening promising plot points troubling the family of girl. Shila and Aashu, played by Alam Khan and Ashwani Kumar are the top goons w...

About Grade Ten’s Visit to Legislative Parliament

Image
When I woke up on 4th August 2017, I felt a sense of anticipation within me which was comparable to anticipation that a child has for its birthday. The visit to Parliament was more like a treat to us. We were having a day off from our school and visiting a decisive place for Nepal’s future. Fast forward to 11 o’clock and we all were excited to have our first look of Parliament’s inside. 29 students and 3 teachers gathered up and lined up to have a school bus’s ride towards Mid-Baneshwor. The dusty and pit full roads retarded our journey. We entered the Parliament's territory from gate number 3. Surpassing through 4 security checks (i.e. entrance gate, metal detector, another metal detector and full body check by security personnel’s) we were now inside the building. We were escorted from entrance gate to parapet by two of the security personnel’s in a very strict manner. We were told to control our human emotions like laughing, yawning and tapping feet. We were also ins...
